coal transition

Coal generates more than a third of global electricity and remains the largest source of energy related emissions.

To achieve the International Energy Agency’s 2050 Net Zero emissions target, all coal generation will have to end by 2040.

The world agrees that coal must be replaced, and some large-scale projects have been achieved with more underway.

Governments are challenged to deliver long-term energy security as world events continue to limit current supply, together with mounting pressure for Climate Change compliance.

Coal transition is a complex matter with significant policy, economic and social impacts.

As coal is phased out, clean energy will need to ramp up to make up for lost capacity and maintain cost to customers.

Its impact on communities also needs to be carefully considered for all those directly and indirectly affected.
